Julian Churches

Updated: Aug 17, 2019

The hills are alive with the sound of church bells. Many visitors are interested in the local churches. Fortunately, we have many options.

Just 15 minutes outside of Julian you can find the historic Santa Ysabel Mission. It was established in 1818, and the current chapel was built in 1924. In addition to the Spanish-style chapel, you can explore the museum, cemetery, gift shop, and remaining artifacts throughout the property. While you're there, see if you can solve the mystery of the missing bells. Mass is held weekly.

Although it's 30 minutes outside of historic Julian, Catholic St. Francis of Assisi Chapel & Cemetery in Warner Springs is another church rich in history. Mass is held once a month.

In the heart of Julian, you can find St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church. Mass is said daily. You can also find the church holding Julian's Annual Oktoberfest and Emerald Ball. The priest at St. Elizabeth's also says mass at Mission Santa Ysabel and St. Francis Chapel. The church grounds include a large parking lot for Julian visitors to park in ($5 a car per day).

Just a few blocks away is Hillside Community Church. Rick Hill and his parishioners invite you to their joyful Sunday worship. You can find Pastor Rick's weekly new's paper column in the The Julian News.

On your way into town (via highway 78), you will pass by the Julian Methodist Church. They offer two Sunday services. While there, you may see bins with "Mountain Manna" written on them. Mountain Manna is a local food pantry providing monthly distributions to low-income families. In the fall, they have a huge rummage sale to benefit the church. You can always find a good bargain.

Calvary Chapel Julian

In Wynola (5 minutes outside of Julian), is Calvary Chapel Julian. They offer weekly ministries and services. They have been active in the Julian community since 1988.

Just through town past the local schools, you can find The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They have a Sunday service.

Which ever church you choose to attended you are sure to receive a warm welcome.
